We are in a culture war and the traditional family is under attack from every direction. Nearly half of all marriages in the United States end in divorce. The media, politicians, and corporations celebrate organizations and movements that marginalize the role of parents and that are in contradiction with the nuclear family.
On March 9, 2022, the Walt Disney Company came out against a bill that was passed in Florida, that banned teachers from teaching children about sexual orientation and gender identity. The bill was appropriately named the “Parental Rights in Education" bill. The tragedy here is multifaceted. Disney has had a reputation in the past for making sweet movies for families. I believe this recent action has destroyed the reputation that Walt Disney worked so hard to create.
It also leaves the question as to why anyone would want to teach six, seven, and eight-year-olds these mature topics, while then taking that decision away from parents. Lack of parental involvement and broken families are having a devastating impact on children.
On May 24, 2022, there was a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the response by politicians was swift, on the very day of the shooting, Senator Chris Murphy took to the Senate floor. He begged and demanded that his colleagues make legislation to stop mass shootings. Later prominent Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey gave a speech at the white house, where he also asked lawmakers to legislate.
With all the power of Washington and with all their good intentions, they cannot legislate people to be moral, law-abiding citizens, that which is taught in the home. You can't legislate parents to love and respect each other and their children.
The majority of mass shooters come from fragmented homes. The Uvalde shooter, Salvador Ramos was no different. He came from a broken home and was living with his grandmother. Almost all the ills of society are tied to the breakdown of the nuclear family. Family is the first line of defense against a society in decline. We can't expect politicians, police officers, social workers, and Hollywood actors to solve a problem that started in the home.
Numerous studies have concluded that children best thrive in a home with a mother and father present. They are more successful in school and less likely to drop out, they are less likely to engage in criminal behavior and less likely to be in poverty in the future.
We are at a hinge point in history, crime has swept across many major cities. Many children have no respect for parents, teachers, or law enforcement. Many people have lost respect for human life. Our culture is changing rapidly into a society where good is bad and bad is good.
For these reasons and countless others, I have created Traditional Family. With the goal to put a renewed emphasis on the nuclear family. It’s time to refocus our attention and realize what is at stake if we as a people do not change the direction our culture is headed.
